2010, April Webster and Nathan Fishbourne made headlines as the youngest parents in the UK, a title that would linger in the public eye for years to come.
At just 13 years old, April found out she was expecting, and by the time their son, Jamie, was born, both had celebrated their 14th birthdays.

Keeping it a secret from her parents

April and Nathan’s relationship began as classmates at St Cenydd School in Caerphilly, South Wales. However, their teenage love took an unexpected twist when April discovered she was pregnant at the tender age of 13.
She learned about her pregnancy with Jamie just a day before turning 14, a revelation that shocked both their families. April had kept their sexual relationship a secret from her parents, feeling “too embarrassed” to share the news.
April and Nathan decided not to use any protection during sex after Nathan had a negative experience with contraceptives during their one attempt.
Initially, Nathan’s parents, Julie and Ron, a retired truck driver, were upset with him.
“I really let him have it and told him he was being foolish. But we can’t change what has happened, and we will welcome Jamie into our family. There’s no way we will turn our backs on him,” Ron shared with The Sun at that time.
After the initial surprise, both sets of grandparents geared up to support the young couple wholeheartedly.
April’s mother, Maria, then 36, expressed, “It was quite a shock at first, but we allowed April to decide whether to go through with the pregnancy.”
Jamie was born in November 2010 via a dramatic cesarean section, weighing 8lbs 14oz. His early days were tough due to a malformed esophagus that complicated feeding. Fortunately, doctors performed a successful surgery, and after 11 days in the hospital, he was declared healthy and ready to go home.
By the time the British tabloids picked up the story, Jamie was already four weeks old and living with his mother, April, at her parents’ house.
To give a better understanding of their living situation, April and her newborn shared a room with her 17-year-old sister, Robyn, who helped by bottle-feeding Jamie. The family dynamic was certainly unique, as the young mother faced the challenges of new parenthood while living under her parents’ roof.

“Jamie wasn’t planned, but I’m determined to be a wonderful mum for him. He’s perfect, and I’ll give him everything he could ever wish for,” April expressed.

“I’d love to have him on weekends, while April can take care of him during the weekdays,” Nathan mentioned at that time.
However, there was early confusion regarding the status of their relationship. April shared that they were experiencing a “cooling off period” and confessed that she was uncertain about the future of their partnership.

Four years later, April revealed that she and Nathan had ended their relationship.
“I broke up with Nathan around three years ago; we don’t really keep in touch,” she mentioned in 2014. “I don’t have a desire to reconnect with him. When I first had Jamie, I hoped we could make it work. But I have no regrets.”
Initially, April intended to pursue her education further, but she never completed her GCSEs, which are typically seen as equivalent to a US High School diploma.
“I’m not in school or working; I’m just focused on taking care of Jamie, and everything is going wonderfully with him,” she shared.
Fortunately, April has received a lot of support from her family and friends throughout this journey.
“My mom and sister adore having Jamie around. He’s a joy. He goes to school in the mornings, which gives me some time to relax. I might consider going to college and taking some exams when Jamie is older, but I’m not planning on having another baby anytime soon.”
Looking at April’s social media today, it’s clear how much her life has flourished since Jamie came into her world.
April is now a proud mom of three beautiful children: Jamie Rhys, Rowan David, and Ava Lianne. At 28 years old, she goes by April Lianna and is enjoying a joyful new relationship with her partner, Jake Jones. It’s truly uplifting to witness the incredible journey April has taken and how beautifully her life is blossoming.
As for Nathan, he seems to be doing well too. In February 2023, he proposed to his partner, Samantha, and has created a lovely family with several kids. It’s wonderful to see Nathan finding his own happiness and flourishing in his unique way.
Teen pregnancy certainly presents numerous challenges, including societal scrutiny and the demands of parenting at a young age.
