A lady has finally received the life-altering operation she had always wanted after her face growth grew so huge that she would nibble on her own skin while eating.
When Starrina from Arizona appeared on Botched By Nature last night, she expressed her optimism that medical professionals might treat her facial abnormality.
Following their consultation with Drs. Paul Nassif and Terry Dubrow, Starrina discloses that she was previously diagnosed with a hemangioma by a different physician.
The stunning revelation from the medical professionals, however, is that she has really been misdiagnosed for thirty years.
“We can safely say that this is a misdiagnosis after looking at Starrina,” Dr. Nassif states.
“This is a vascular malformation, blood just sits in there in pools,” he continues, explaining that a hemangioma shrinks with age but has become bigger in Starrina’s case.
Following a proper diagnosis, the physicians described the two steps that would be taken to reduce her growth.
In order to diminish the blood vessels within her growth, the first step is embolization, which involves injecting foam.
In order to attempt to reduce the growth, the physicians will operate on it during the second stage.
It’s time for Starrina to undergo surgery after the embolization. According to Dr. Nassif, there is a danger associated with the procedure.
He states: “This is really challenging; there’s a chance of hurting one of those nerves, bleeding, and further scarring.”
“Not that anything we do is easy, but in Starrina’s case, it’s very risky and challenging.” We won’t really understand what’s happening until we enter.
Starrina is eager to do everything, however, to slow down her development. “I feel like I’ve been waiting for this opportunity my entire life, and I’m just excited for the future,” she adds.
A’super expert’ on vascular abnormalities, Dr. Greg Levitin, is brought in by Dr. Nassif to help Starrina have the best possible result.
“We are going to start by removing a triangular piece of tissue from her lower lip,” Dr. Nassif says in reference to Starrina’s operation.
We shall next start by carefully excising as much of the aberrant tumor as we can from within her mouth.
“Starrina’s face will look smoother and more normal after everything is said and done.”
According to Dr. Nassif, Starrina was ‘approximately 75 percent better’ after the procedure.
Starrina had a second embolization around one and a half months after her first procedure. Three months following the procedure, she sees the physicians again and tells them the results are “amazing.”
“We improved Starrina; it’s not a two-month process when you try to cure something that has been accruing over 30 years,” Dr. Nassif explains.
