A Heartbreaking Farewell to a Beloved Country Singer

Dylan Carter, known for his appearance on Season 24 of The Voice, has tragically passed away at 24 years old after a single-car accident in rural South Carolina this past Saturday.

Based on local news sources, the collision occurred on a roadway in Colleton County. Officials verified the deadly incident late that evening, and an ongoing investigation is being conducted by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Reba McEntire Speaks Out

Carter first gained national spotlight in 2023 following a breathtaking blind audition where he sang “I Look to You.” The performance was a touching homage to his mother, who had passed away the prior year. His poignant delivery was so moving that it prompted every single judge to turn their chair.

“You only get four chairs if you really move the room,” stated judge Niall Horan, describing the audition as “spectacular.”

His chosen mentor, Reba McEntire, also expressed her thoughts:

“That’s when you know you’ve got a great song and a great singer. When it touches your heart.”

Following the heartbreaking news of his passing, McEntire posted a tribute on social media, stating:

“We will miss Dylan so much. He was a brilliant, kind and talented young man who brought a huge ray of sunshine to The Voice. Rest in peace, my dear friend.”

A Gifted Singer

Thomas Hamilton Jr., the Mayor of Moncks Corner, also paid homage to the late vocalist, noting that the entire community was “heartbroken.”

“As a gifted singer, he frequently entertained our community with his performances at Town events. His kindness and charm earned him immense respect, and his absence will be deeply felt.

To the loved ones and acquaintances of Dylan, we offer our sincerest condolences during this difficult period. The Town of Moncks Corner, its Council, and entire staff extend their deepest sympathies. He was much more to our family than an entertainer — he was our friend and we are deeply saddened.”

Carter was originally slated to take the stage at the town’s “Music on Main” gathering this Monday. The event has subsequently been canceled as devastated fans poured their tributes onto social media.

During his time auditioning, Carter spoke openly about his profound grief, explaining to the coaches:

“When I saw y’all turn around, I saw my mom. She passed back in October and she wanted me to sing it at her funeral… This was the best second chance. I just made her so proud.”

Once his journey on the program concluded, he looked back on the experience through a deeply touching post:

“Well last night did not go as we all were hoping, but I am proud to say that I went out there on that stage and gave it MY ALL.”

He further shared:

“I came to The Voice unsure of myself… and still grieving the loss of my mom. I left LA with confidence in myself and my future… I’m moving forward with her, as she shines through me!”

The investigation regarding the fatal accident is currently ongoing.
