His extensive academic pursuits eventually carried him across the globe to London, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Economics and Political Science from the prestigious London School of Economics, as well as a Master of Fine Arts from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).

Long before he became a familiar face in Hollywood, Dion Anderson kicked off his career by teaching Shakespeare in Florida. He subsequently joined Voice of America, immersing himself in the realm of film and television. As the Vietnam War erupted, Dion traveled to South Vietnam, where he was instrumental in building television network facilities and training local broadcast staff.

His international work continued when he partnered with the U.S. Foreign Service and the State Department in Iran. There, he helped establish national radio and television networks while simultaneously teaching English, producing theatrical plays, and organizing local art exhibitions.

Following the completion of his studies at LAMDA, Anderson was appointed as the theater director at the Opera House in Charleston, West Virginia. It was after this stint that he fully committed to pursuing his own acting career, paving the way for a string of highly memorable roles.

Dion graced the screen and stage in numerous films, television series, and theater productions. He is perhaps best known to global audiences for his imposing role as prison guard Head Bull Haig in The Shawshank Redemption, but he also garnered high praise for his theatrical performances in Shakespeare’s Henry VI and Tennessee Williams’ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
