Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Régine Chassagne Split After 22 Years of Marriage

Back in 2003, Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Régine Chassagne said “I do.” Now, after 22 years of marriage, and a son who was born in 2013, the couple is calling it quits.

The couple announced their breakup on the band’s Instagram page in a statement that reads, “After a long and loving marriage, Win and Régine have decided to separate. They continue to love, admire and support each other as they co-parent their son.”

The band also broached the topic of what this split means for Arcade Fire. In the statement, the band shared, “Their work in Haiti with KANPE continues and their bond as creative soulmates will endure, as will Arcade Fire. The band send their love and look forward to seeing you all on tour soon.”

There was nothing in the statement that explained why they are deciding to split up after 22 years, but PEOPLE reports that back in 2022, Butler admitted to cheating on Chassagne multiple times. Multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct, but he claimed every affair was consensual.

At the time, Butler shared a statement with Pitchfork explaining, “While these relationships were all consensual, I am very sorry to anyone who I have hurt with my behavior.” He called called Chassagne his “soul mate.”

Chassagne supported him releasing her own statement to Pitchfork where she explained, “I know what is in his heart, and I know he has never, and would never, touch a woman without her consent and I am certain he never did.” She added, “He has lost his way and he has found his way back. I love him and love the life we have created together.” She also referred to Butler as her “soulmate.”

Arcade Fire currently consists of Butler, Chassagne, Richard Reed Parry, Tim Kingsbury and Jeremy Gara. The band released an album called Pink this past May.
