Beloved Connecticut meteorologist Geoff Fox dead at 75 after lengthy cancer battle

Beloved Connecticut meteorologist Geoff Fox died Wednesday after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 75.

“For many people, Geoff Fox was the weather,” Fox 61, one of his homes on the airwaves, said in a touching tribute Tuesday.

Fox spent nearly 30 years forecasting the weather on Connecticut television stations, and became known for his enthusiasm, humor, and ability to explain complex weather situations to viewers.

He calmly reported on countless severe weather events over the years, including Hurricane Gloria in 1985, Hurricane Bob in 1991, and the infamous 1993 blizzard, according to Fox 61.

Fox’s family shared the news of his passing in a touching post on his Facebook page.

“All the thoughts, prayers and memories you posted kept Geoff going these past few months,” his wife, Helaine, wrote, explaining he passed peacefully in his sleep.

“He really was grateful for the connection he shared with all of you,” she added. “Though it will be impossible to answer everyone’s posts, I promise to read each and every one of them. Thank you for loving Geoff. He really loved all of you, too.”

Fox battled pancreatic cancer for at least eight years, and asked to be cremated after his death.

The New York City native graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School, and got his broadcasting start on East Coast radio stations.

His first television gig was as a host for a nationally syndicated show out of Buffalo, “Evening Magazine.”

By 1984, Fox had joined New Haven’s WTNH as a meteorologist, and spent the next 30 years broadcasting from there.

As his regional acclaim grew, Fox would sometimes fill in on “Good Morning America” for weather broadcasts.

He joined Fox 61 in 2011, but by 2012 had moved to California and set up a home studio where he contributed to stations across the country.

His career suffered a moment of controversy, however, when he was caught sexting with a coworker before he moved out west.

The situation led to his firing from Fox 61, while Fox fessed up to the behavior and apologized to his family and viewers, the Middletown Press reported.

Pancreatic cancer typically claims its victims quickly, but Fox miraculously managed to battle the disease back for nearly a decade.

He is survived by his wife and daughter, Stef.
