Ben Affleck Bares All: The Truth About That R-Rated Scene
Audiences were stunned when an unexpected admission from Ben Affleck emerged, reigniting discussions online. The Hollywood superstar previously confessed that a highly intimate on-screen moment was completely authentic.
Ben Affleck was entirely open when discussing what is likely his most vulnerable cinematic sequence. In the highly praised psychological thriller Gone Girl—which features a star-studded cast including Affleck, Emily Ratajkowski, Rosamund Pike, and Neil Patrick Harris—the actor literally bared it all for the cameras. And by that, we mean absolutely everything.
Gone Girl earned numerous high-profile award nods, securing both BAFTA and Oscar nominations. Even a dozen years after it hit theaters, the movie holds a strong 88 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Could a brief flash of nudity have helped boost that impressive score?
One of the most highly debated sequences in the film includes a quick nude glimpse that, upon closer inspection, appears to reveal Affleck’s genitalia. Once viewers noticed it, social media went into an absolute frenzy.
This split-second shot dominated entertainment chatter for weeks. The cast and production team, Affleck included, have since spoken out about the widely discussed scene.
Ben Affleck confirms his real penis was shown in this movie
While a lot of performers use prosthetic attachments for nude sequences, Affleck decided to go completely natural, bearing his actual “package” on the big screen.
During a 2014 sit-down with Entertainment Weekly, Affleck shared his thoughts, stating, “I want to take this opportunity to thank David [Fincher] for the way he treated me.”
He elaborated, “Specifically, we had a shower scene in the movie. And David made sure to reassure me, because trust is crucial between directors and actors: ‘Listen, if we tilt down we will never go far enough to see anything.’ So thank you, David.”
Affleck continued with a joke: “And I’d like to thank you for keeping the set cool. Because if you’re going to have one chance for America to see your junk, you want it to be cold. It’s a real gift.”
At the time of filming, Affleck was wed to Jennifer Garner, who also chimed in on her then-husband’s revealing moment.
“What I have to say is – you’re welcome,” she joked to Ellen DeGeneres. “You know, I try to think of myself as a charitable person and I wanted to give back,” she added.
Looking back on the day Affleck came home and told her about filming the shower sequence, Garner recounted, “It was a discussion. It was like, ‘Hey, um, at work today [director David] Fincher talked me into coming out of the shower.’ And I was like, ‘Cool, well I hope he had on a wide lens.’”
