Britain’s Youngest Parents: The Shocking Story of Two 14-Year-Olds
Back in 2010, April Webster and Nathan Fishbourne dominated the news as the youngest parents in the United Kingdom, a distinction that kept them in the media spotlight for years.
Discovering she was pregnant at the mere age of 13, April and Nathan had both recently turned 14 by the time they welcomed their son, Jamie, into the world.
Their situation drew immense public fascination, sparking conversations fueled by both astonishment and intrigue. Public reactions were decidedly mixed, ranging from severe criticism to deep empathy. Yet, once the media frenzy quieted down and the headlines faded, what happened to the young family that briefly captivated the nation?
Hiding the Truth from Family
Entering parenthood is a monumental life event, and it was certainly true for 14-year-olds April Webster and Nathan Fishbourne. However, their remarkably young age made their particular experience entirely unprecedented.
The pair originally connected as schoolmates attending St Cenydd School in Caerphilly, South Wales. Their adolescent romance, however, took a drastic turn when a 13-year-old April realized she was carrying a child.
She uncovered the news of her pregnancy just one day shy of her 14th birthday, a bombshell that left both of their families stunned. Feeling “too embarrassed” to confess, April had successfully hidden their intimate relationship from her parents.

The young teenagers had chosen to forgo protection during intercourse, following a negative experience Nathan had with contraceptives during a previous attempt.
At first, Nathan’s parents, Julie and retired truck driver Ron, were incredibly disappointed. “I really let him have it and told him he was being foolish. But we can’t change what has happened, and we will welcome Jamie into our family. There’s no way we will turn our backs on him,” Ron shared with The Sun at that time.
Following the initial shock, both pairs of grandparents rallied together to offer the teenage couple their unwavering support.
April’s mother, Maria, who was 36 at the time, stated, “It was quite a shock at first, but we allowed April to decide whether to go through with the pregnancy.”
In November 2010, Jamie was delivered through an intense C-section, weighing in at 8lbs 14oz. His first days were challenging, complicated by a malformed esophagus that made feeding difficult. Luckily, medical professionals executed a successful operation, and following an 11-day hospital stay, he was deemed healthy enough to be discharged.
When the British tabloids finally broke the story, Jamie was already a month old and residing with April at her family’s home.
To paint a clearer picture of their domestic life, April and her infant shared a bedroom with her 17-year-old sister, Robyn, who frequently assisted with bottle-feeding. It was an unconventional family dynamic, with the adolescent mother navigating the trials of early parenthood while still living under her own parents’ roof.
Meanwhile, Nathan continued to live a few miles down the road with his own parents.
Uncertainty Surrounding Their Relationship
Regardless of the extraordinary circumstances, April was devoted to being an excellent mother. “Jamie wasn’t planned, but I’m determined to be a wonderful mum for him. He’s perfect, and I’ll give him everything he could ever wish for,” April declared.
In those early days of 2010, the exact logistics of how the two teens would co-parent were quite ambiguous.
“I’d love to have him on weekends, while April can take care of him during the weekdays,” Nathan suggested at the time.
Nevertheless, the actual status of their romance was murky from the start. April noted that they were going through a “cooling off period,” admitting she wasn’t entirely sure what the future held for them as a couple.
Where Are April Webster and Nathan Fishbourne Now?
Four years down the line, April confirmed that her relationship with Nathan was officially over.
“I broke up with Nathan around three years ago; we don’t really keep in touch,” she explained in 2014. “I don’t have a desire to reconnect with him. When I first had Jamie, I hoped we could make it work. But I have no regrets.”
Originally, April had plans to continue her schooling, but she ultimately did not finish her GCSEs (the UK equivalent of a US High School diploma).
“I’m not in school or working; I’m just focused on taking care of Jamie, and everything is going wonderfully with him,” she noted back then.
Luckily, April leaned on a strong support system of friends and family to navigate her journey.
“My mom and sister adore having Jamie around. He’s a joy. He goes to school in the mornings, which gives me some time to relax. I might consider going to college and taking some exams when Jamie is older, but I’m not planning on having another baby anytime soon.”
Fast forward to today, a glance at April’s social media reveals just how beautifully her life has evolved since Jamie’s arrival.

Now 28 years old and going by the name April Lianna, she is the proud mother of three lovely children: Jamie Rhys, Rowan David, and Ava Lianne. She is also happily involved in a new relationship with her partner, Jake Jones. It is incredibly heartening to see the remarkable path she has traveled and the fulfilling life she has built.
Nathan appears to be thriving as well. In February 2023, he got engaged to his partner, Samantha, and they have built a beautiful family of their own with multiple children. It is fantastic to witness Nathan carving out his own happiness and succeeding on his own terms.
While teenage pregnancy undeniably brings about a multitude of obstacles—ranging from intense public judgment to the sheer physical and emotional demands of early parenthood—this specific story demonstrates immense resilience.
In spite of the daunting early hurdles, both April and Nathan have managed to construct incredibly positive and fulfilling lives. It is moving to watch them remain engaged parents as Jamie blossoms into a young man. We send them nothing but well wishes for the future!
Their shared history stands as an inspiring testament that, even when the road is steep, determination and a solid support system can help individuals overcome adversity and find true happiness.
