Inmate who killed wife and children had chilling final words before execution.
The inmate on Death Row, whose execution took place over 20 years after he was convicted of murdering his wife and two children, departed this life with a rather unsettling statement.
Edward Zakrzewski was executed in Florida yesterday, July 31, more than two decades after being sentenced for the dreadful crimes mentioned above. He became the 9th individual to be executed in Florida in 2025, with two additional executions scheduled for this month.
At the age of 60, he was declared dead following a three-drug injection: a sedative, a paralytic, and a drug that induces cardiac arrest.
Zakrzewski had been on Death Row since 1994, when he was found guilty of killing his wife, Sylvia, and their two children, who were seven and five years old. After committing the murders, he escaped to Molokai Island, Hawaii, where he successfully evaded capture for four months until a local minister recognized him on the show Unsolved Mysteries.
He eventually surrendered, reportedly stating that he would prefer to kill his family rather than face a divorce from his wife.
His final attempt to secure a stay of execution was unsuccessful on Wednesday, and he subsequently became the 9th person executed in Florida this year – setting a new record for the state.

Officials at Florida State Prison disclosed that Zakrzewski’s last meal consisted of fried pork chops, root beer, and ice cream.
In a chilling statement, he expressed: “I want to thank the good people of the Sunshine State for killing me in the most cold, calculated, clean, humane, efficient way possible. I have no complaint.”
Currently, Florida is poised to surpass Texas in the number of executions for the first time since 1984.
The Sunshine State’s previous record for executions since the reinstatement of capital punishment in 1976 was eight, which occurred in 2014.
