After Daisy’s owner no longer had a use for her, they abandoned her in a dangerous area where she struggled to survive on scraps of food.
Daisy was cruelly tied to a tree by a resident who saw her as a nuisance. She remained there for over 24 hours until someone called DAR Animal Rescue for help. When rescuer Ermioni arrived, Daisy was barely conscious due to fear, hunger, and loneliness.
Daisy was so terrified of Ermioni that she believed she was in danger, even though no one else had come forward to help her.
As Ermioni approached, Daisy’s eyes grew wide with fear. When Ermioni finally managed to hold her, she realized that the dog was terrified. Ermioni did her best to hug and comfort Daisy, feeling the rapid pounding of the dog’s heart.
Ermioni quickly freed Daisy from the ropes and lifted her up. Ermioni was horrified by how the locals around her just stared without showing any concern for Daisy. They gave Ermioni strange looks, but nobody bothered to ask if Daisy was okay.
Unfortunately, Daisy’s health was not good when she visited the veterinarian. She had low blood pressure, high white blood cell count, and diarrhea due to the recent trauma. However, with treatment, Daisy quickly regained her health and was able to start anew in the shelter within a few days.
Although Daisy was physically better, the emotional damage she suffered still showed in her behavior around others. She was shy and withdrawn from both humans and animals. Watching other dogs play only reminded her of how lost she felt. It would take a long time for her to fully recover emotionally.
The shelter workers were very patient with Daisy, allowing her to heal at her own pace. As time went on, she became less fearful and even started wagging her tail faintly. Eventually, she realized that she was safe and loved, and eagerly embraced her second chance at life!
She now lives in her permanent home, calm and contentment only a German dog could understand. She enjoys spending time with her human family and dog siblings, showing how happy she is through beautiful smiles. If the people in the neighborhood where she was abandoned years ago could see how peacefully happy she is now, perhaps they would become more compassionate towards strays in the future.
