The Little House on the Prairie family is grieving a deeply felt loss. Victor French Jr., the son of the beloved actor Victor French—famous for playing Mr. Edwards—has tragically passed away.
This sorrowful announcement was made on April 6 during an episode of the Little House on the Prairie 50th Anniversary Podcast. The show is hosted by series alumni Alison Arngrim and Dean Butler, alongside actress Pamela Bob.
Victor Jr.’s father famously played Mr. Edwards on the iconic series before sadly passing away in 1989 at the age of 54, following a brave battle with lung cancer. During the podcast, a touching tribute honored Victor Jr.’s life and his uplifting impact on the fan community.

“We are deeply heartbroken to share the news of Victor French Jr.’s passing. As a beloved figure in the Little House community, Victor devoted himself to keeping his father’s memory alive with his relentless kindness and dedication to the fans. Alison Arngrim, famous for playing Nellie Oleson, offered a poignant homage:
“Oh… no. Our precious Victor Jr. has left us,” she wrote on Facebook. “He was a creator of joy. A champion of happiness. He lit up every space he entered. We will profoundly miss him.”
Actor Dean Butler, known for his role as Almanzo Wilder, similarly shared his sorrow upon hearing the tragic news. Taking to Instagram for a sincere tribute, Butler reflected on how Victor Jr. and his sister were essential fixtures at many Little House gatherings. According to Butler, they played a crucial role in sustaining the series’ enduring legacy.
He reminded fans that they were the offspring of Victor French, the man forever immortalized as Isaiah Edwards. Furthermore, Butler revealed that Victor Jr. had been battling cancer.

“Victor will be cherished for his tender sweetness and his fun-loving humor. Just a beautiful presence,” Butler stated, observing that Victor Jr. and his late actor father were “cut from the same cloth.”

He frequently delighted event attendees by performing a quick verse or two of ‘Old Dan Tucker.’ Victor was simply a remarkably sweet, genuine man.
