McLeod’s Daughters Star Rachael Carpani Dies Unexpectedly at 45 After Long Illness
A Gold Logie–nominated actress best known for her work on *Home and Away* and *McLeod’s Daughters* has died at the age of 45.
Australian actress Rachael Carpani, widely recognised for her role on the long-running drama *McLeod’s Daughters*, passed away “unexpectedly” at 45. The heartbreaking news was announced by her parents in a statement shared by her sister, singer Georgia, on Instagram today.
“It is with great sadness that Tony and Gael Carpani announce that their beautiful daughter, beloved Australian actress Rachael Carpani, unexpectedly but peacefully passed away after a long battle with chronic illness, in the early hours of Sunday 7th December,” the statement said.
“The funeral will be a private event, to be held on Friday 19th December with close family and friends. The family requests privacy at this very difficult time and will be making no further statements.”
Carpani was best known for portraying Jodi Fountain on the Australian television drama *McLeod’s Daughters*, a role she held from 2001 to 2009. Her performance earned her two Logie nominations in 2007, including the Silver Logie for Most Popular Actress and a nomination for the prestigious Gold Logie.
Beyond television, Carpani appeared in films such as *Hating Alison Ashley* and *The Very Excellent Mr Dundee*, and made guest appearances on series including *All Saints* and *NCIS: Los Angeles*.
Her final on-screen appearance was a recurring role on *Home and Away*, where she played Claudia Salini during the show’s 2024 season.
Carpani also drew public attention in 2021 after being rushed to hospital with severe abdominal pain, later revealing to followers that she required surgery for an undisclosed illness.
“I was admitted to emergency with acute abdominal pain just over a week ago and spent a few days in the ICU. Was then moved to the surgical ward,” she wrote at the time.
“Basically it was a case of me not listening to my body and the pain (I tend to work through pain!!) and allowing myself to get quite ill.”
A pinned post on Carpani’s Instagram page from March 2024 also referenced her ongoing health struggles. The actress shared images from a recent photo shoot, noting it was the first time in some time she had appeared with “no hospital gown, no awesome surgery sock.”
