Pop Songwriting Legend Neil Sedaka Passes Away at 86
Neil Sedaka, the legendary singer-songwriter renowned for enduring 1960s and 70s hits like “Calendar Girl” and “Laughter in the Rain,” has unexpectedly passed away at the age of 86, his family has confirmed.
After mentioning he was feeling sick, the iconic vocalist was taken to the hospital for a short period on Friday. Soon after, his relatives shared the heartbreaking news with TMZ.
They released a statement expressing their grief: “Our family is devastated by the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Neil Sedaka. A true rock and roll legend, an inspiration to millions, but most importantly, at least to those of us who were lucky enough to know him, an incredible human being who will be deeply missed.”

Reports indicate that Sedaka was transported to a medical facility around 8:00 a.m. after informing his family of his discomfort. The specific nature of his illness remains undisclosed to the public.
According to Page Six, prior to the sudden announcement of his passing, there was a general belief that the musician was recuperating in the hospital.
As the creative force behind unforgettable tracks like Breaking Up Is Hard to Do, Calendar Girl, and Laughter in the Rain, Sedaka saw his music sell millions of copies globally. His enduring catalog has been covered by a wide array of legendary artists, notably Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra.
Between the years of 1959 and 1977, he earned five Grammy nominations, and his immense musical contributions were ultimately cemented with an induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

His musical journey started in the 1950s with the vocal group The Tokens, achieving fame with the iconic anthem The Lion Sleeps Tonight, before he eventually transitioned into a highly successful solo artist.
Since 1962, he had been married to his wife, Leba Strassberg.
Together, the couple shares two grown children: their daughter Dara, a 62-year-old vocalist, and their son Marc, a 59-year-old screenwriter. Sedaka was also known to be a loving and devoted grandfather.
