Pulp Fiction Actor Peter Greene Found Dead in New York Apartment, Strange Note Discovered at Scene
A strange handwritten note was reportedly discovered beside the body of *Pulp Fiction* actor Peter Greene after he was found dead inside his New York City apartment.
According to reports, police found Greene lying face down on the floor with the note nearby when they responded to the scene. The acclaimed actor, best known for his villainous roles in 1994’s *Pulp Fiction* and *The Mask*, died at his apartment in New York’s Lower East Side, a fact his manager confirmed overnight. He was 60 years old.
“Peter was lying on the floor, facedown, facial injury, blood everywhere …” a neighbor told the *New York Daily News*, describing the disturbing scene. The outlet further reported that a handwritten note was found near Greene’s body. The message read, “I’m still a Westie,” a reference to the Irish-American gang that operated out of Hell’s Kitchen in the 1970s.
A representative for Greene did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Greene was pronounced dead on Friday, US time, after being found unresponsive in his Clinton Street apartment in the Lower East Side at approximately 3.25pm. Police stated that no foul play is suspected, and that the official cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.
“He was a terrific guy,” said his manager of more than a decade, Gregg Edwards. “Truly one of the great actors of our generation. His heart was as big as there was. I’m going to miss him. He was a great friend.”
Edwards said Greene, who also appeared in *The Usual Suspects*, was preparing to begin production in January on an independent thriller titled *Mascots*, alongside Mickey Rourke. Edwards, who is based in California, notified the film’s writer-director, Kerry Mondragón, of the actor’s death and said he became emotional while delivering the news. “They were very upset,” he added.
While Greene had a reputation for being difficult to work with at times, Edwards explained that his client was a perfectionist who poured everything into his roles and wanted each performance to be “just right.” “He worked with so many amazing actors and directors,” Edwards said, noting that Greene’s portrayal of ruthless mobster Dorian Tyrell opposite Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz in *The Mask* was “arguably his best role.” He added, “He fought his demons but overcame them.”
Born in Montclair, New Jersey, Greene ran away from home at age 15 and lived on the streets of New York City, where he became involved in drug use and later dealing, he revealed in a 1996 interview with *Premier* magazine. Following a suicide attempt in March 1996, he sought treatment for his addictions, according to the profile.
The blue-eyed actor appeared in some of Hollywood’s most memorable films, including his role as Zed, the sadistic security guard and serial killer in Quentin Tarantino’s *Pulp Fiction*. With approximately 95 acting credits, Greene also starred in *Laws of Gravity*, *Clean, Shaven*, *Blue Streak*, and *Training Day*.
