Trump’s Approval Plummets as Cost of Living Rises and Epstein Files Shake Voters

Although Donald Trump insists he has the potential to become the Greatest President in U.S. history by reducing food and gas prices and generating trillions of dollars for the country, voters seem to feel otherwise.

Trump is currently under heightened scrutiny following the release of the Epstein files. It is still unclear what information will emerge, but Trump has recently shifted his position, now calling for the full release of the documents — despite previously dismissing them as a “hoax.”

Despite the president’s claims, the cost of living in the United States has not declined. According to the September consumer price index, grocery prices are 2.7 percent higher than they were during the same month last year.

Furthermore, prices are now 1.4 percent higher than they were when Trump entered office in January.

Even though Trump has blamed the elevated prices on the Democrats, he told McDonald’s franchise owners on Monday that he deserves credit for bringing inflation back to “normal,” vowing to lower prices even more.

This combination of rising costs and the controversy surrounding the Epstein files has not resonated well with voters. A recent poll shows Trump’s popularity has dropped to its lowest point of his second term. The Reuters/Ipsos four-day survey, released Tuesday, November 18, found that both the cost of living and the Jeffrey Epstein files played major roles in the decline.

Only 38% of Americans approve of Trump’s performance in the Oval Office. The poll also shows his “overall approval has decreased by two percentage points since a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted in early November,” according to Reuters. Meanwhile, 62% of Americans disapprove of his handling of the presidency.

A total of 1,017 U.S. adults participated in the survey, which carries a margin of error of about 3 percentage points.
