US reality star’s sad cause of death revealed

A contestant who gained recognition on a pioneering reality dating series has died at 42 under tragic circumstances.

Authorities have now confirmed the cause of death for former Finding Prince Charming participant Chad Spodick, just days after news of his passing. A spokesperson for the Boca Raton Police Department told People that Spodick died by suicide, and that the case remains open.

His “sudden and heartbreaking” death was first shared by family and friends through a GoFundMe campaign on December 4.

“Our hearts are shattered as we share the devastating news of the loss of our beautiful, kind, and generous son, brother, and friend Chad,” wrote his friend Kate Werbowski.

Funds raised will support Spodick’s mother, Felice Harwood, covering funeral arrangements and her ongoing living expenses.

“We are still struggling to comprehend a world without his light,” Werbowski added. “Chad was the type of person who poured himself into others.”

Another close friend reflected on how Spodick uplifted those around him — urging them to grow, stand up for themselves, and believe in their own value.

Werbowski also spoke about his compassion for animals.

“He cared deeply for every creature, especially his four beloved dogs and his bird, Cosmo,” she said. “The world was brighter with Chad in it, and those fortunate enough to know him felt the warmth of his heart every day.”

More than $US27,000 has been donated, surpassing the original $US20,000 goal. The money will cover funeral costs, help with his mother’s living expenses, and ensure continued care for Chad’s animals during this painful time.

Spodick first gained public attention as a contestant on Finding Prince Charming in 2016. The series, the first all-gay dating show, featured 13 single men living together as they competed for the affection of “eligible gay heart-throb” Robert Sepulveda Jr. Hosted by Lance Bass, the show saw Spodick depart after six weeks.

Following the announcement of his death, many people commented on his final social media post.

One person wrote, “RIP Dear Beautiful Chad. You were loved, and the aviation community mourns you and will always remember you. A great flight attendant, a good man, a lover of all animals, a good friend and son to Felece.”

Another added, “RIP Chad. Always so kind.”

His niece also commented, “My beautiful uncle. Fly high, Uncle Chad. Love you forever. Please donate if you can to support our family — any contributions are appreciated.”

In addition to his reality TV appearances and modelling work, Spodick briefly acted in the early 2000s, appearing in Law & Order and Yards in 2000, and Boys of Sunset Ridge in 2001.
