Wheel of Fortune Player Lost A Brand New Car After Failing To Solve This Hard Puzzle

A devastating choice on a recent broadcast of Wheel of Fortune left the audience in shock and triggered a flood of online commentary. A contestant opted out of a high-stakes play that many viewers felt was her guaranteed ticket to winning the game.

At the center of the television drama was Jess Coleman, a resident of Catonsville, Maryland, who introduced herself by sharing her love for crafting detailed charcuterie boards and grazing tables. In the highly competitive May 27 episode, she went head-to-head against Cristy Elrod from Kentucky and Aditya Jain from New York.

The competition began on relatively equal footing. Elrod snagged the first toss-up puzzle, while Coleman successfully answered the second. However, Jain quickly proved to be a formidable opponent, securing an early lead by grabbing the Wild Card and solving a subsequent puzzle.

Coleman managed to build up her own momentum later in the game. She added thousands of dollars to her bankroll by correctly deciphering a “Before & After” puzzle. Yet, the true turning point of the broadcast occurred during the prize puzzle round.

With a significant portion of the board already visible, Coleman spun and landed on the highly desirable Express wedge. This game-altering feature lets a player earn $1,000 for each correct consonant called, provided they maintain control of the board. The massive risk, however, is that a single wrong letter triggers an instant bankruptcy.

Even though the board was largely in her favor and she had built up considerable momentum, Coleman decided to pass on the risky opportunity.

The studio audience gasped audibly at her choice, seemingly aware that she was letting a massive opportunity slip away. While host Ryan Seacrest tried to comfort her, fans watching from their living rooms immediately criticized the overly cautious move.

Shortly after, the worst-case scenario unfolded.

Having accumulated over $14,000, Coleman’s spin landed on a Bankrupt wedge. This completely erased her round’s earnings and handed control straight to her competitors.

The board eventually made its way to Jain, who eagerly accepted the Express challenge. He flawlessly finished the puzzle, which read “The Rain in Spain Stays Mainly in the Plain,” claiming lucrative travel rewards that skyrocketed his overall score.

Following the broadcast, social media platforms lit up with exasperated fans criticizing Coleman’s refusal to ride the Express wedge. Countless viewers pointed out that enough letters were already displayed for her to easily solve the puzzle and secure a dominant lead.

Jain capitalized on his success by sweeping all three Triple Toss-Up puzzles, padding his bankroll with an additional $10,000. While Elrod managed to solve the night’s final puzzle, Jain secured a comfortable victory with $25,740, sending him straight to the Bonus Round.

With his parents cheering him on, Jain opted for the “Living Things” category. After picking his extra letters, he was confronted with a very difficult board. Despite throwing out several imaginative guesses, time ran out before he could uncover the final word.

The missing word was ultimately revealed to be “Magnolias.”

Had Jain figured it out, he would have won a brand-new Volkswagen Tiguan. Instead, the vehicle went unclaimed, capping off a dramatic episode defined by unforeseen turns, difficult choices, and a missed gamble that the Wheel of Fortune community won’t easily forget.
