‘Wheel of Fortune’ Player Wins $60,000 for His Wedding After Solving the Puzzle Correctly

A “Wheel of Fortune” player nearly left the Bonus Round with nothing, but a frantic last-second realization completely changed the game.

Pat Ralph, hailing from Westfield, New Jersey, had both the studio audience and viewers at home on the edge of their seats during Thursday’s broadcast. He was dangerously close to missing out on an impressive overall payout of $60,000. Engaged and in the midst of wedding preparations, Ralph had mentioned to host Ryan Seacrest that every penny mattered as he and his fiancée budgeted for their upcoming celebration.

Ralph started the competition with excellent momentum. He successfully solved the initial two toss-up puzzles immediately, quickly accumulating $3,000. Fellow contestants Kelly Rushford from Buffalo, New York, and Stefani Adams from Chicago, Illinois, did their best to match his pace, resulting in an evening full of fluctuations for everyone.

Rushford, a dedicated viewer who catches the Canadian broadcast ahead of the U.S. airing, successfully completed the first puzzle with just two empty spaces left, gaining an early advantage. Meanwhile, Adams, who humorously noted that appearing on “Wheel of Fortune” was on her life’s bingo card, temporarily captured the lead. She solved the “Winning a Flying Car” puzzle, which rewarded her with a Hawaiian vacation and the coveted Wild Card.

Unfortunately, her good fortune was short-lived. A disastrous spin hit Bankrupt, erasing her accumulated cash and taking away her Wild Card.

Capitalizing on the shift, Ralph accurately guessed “Hammock Between Two Palm Trees” during the Prize Puzzle round. This victory secured him a getaway to Barbados and elevated his score to $20,500. Rushford fought back late in the game by dominating all three Triple Toss-Ups to win $10,000. Although Adams finished powerfully by solving the last puzzle, “A Narrow Escape,” it wasn’t sufficient to regain the top spot.

Following the resolution of the final puzzle, Adams departed with $15,944, Rushford concluded her run with $11,000, and Ralph proceeded to the Bonus Round boasting a comfortable $20,500.

With his fiancée Courtney by his side, Ralph selected the “Phrase” category. After the show provided the customary R, S, T, L, N, and E, he opted for the consonants C, D, P, and the vowel A. The board then revealed: “P_C_ A CARD AN_ CARD.”

The clock began to wind down. With mere seconds remaining, Ralph initially blurted out, “Pick a card and card.” However, right before time ran out, he frantically corrected his answer to: “Pick a card, any card.” His revision was spot-on, securing him a massive $40,000 bonus prize.

Ralph concluded the broadcast with an impressive $60,500 total and a look of pure relief on his face.

Internet commentators were quick to share their reactions. “He really scared me for a second!” a fan commented on YouTube. Another chimed in, “That was way too close, but he nailed it!” Several others referred to his victory as a “wedding-saving win,” commending Ralph for maintaining his composure when the pressure was on.

It certainly came down to the absolute last moment, but for Ralph, the efforts ultimately paid dividends—in more ways than one.
